South Lane School District School to Work Specialist Denise Beauchamp and former student John Williams present December 1, 2009 in Dallas Texas on a Summer Work Program project at Aprovecho. The Summer Work Program was made possible by a Workforce Investment Act grant from the Lane Workforce Partnership.

2008 Oregon School Boards Association Convention

Keynote: From a Professional Learning Community to a Community of Practice: A Review of South Lane School District's Studio Classroom Model.

2008 State Superintendent Forum, Denver, Colorado

Keynote: 2008 State Superintendent Forum – 2008 National Superintendent of the Year, Rudy Crew, from Florida and 2007 National Superintendent of the Year, Krista Parent, from Oregon were the featured speakers on October 16, 2008 at the State Superintendent Forum. The Forum is a three-day conference for the 50 State Superintendents of the Year from across the country. The theme for the Forum was "Transforming Our Schools." Rudy spoke from the perspective of a large, urban school district view point and addressed policy issues that we as a country need to address. Krista spoke from a small school district perspective on the "how-to" for transforming a school district. Rudy and Krista spent follow up time with the state superintendents in a question and answer session.

2008 Effective School Practices Network (Lane ESD)

Presentation: "New Teacher Induction into South Lane School District: An Evolution of Practice" - was shared with school district administrators and leaders participating in Lane ESD's Effective School Practices Network. This presentation focused on the evolution of our programs for new teachers as they join the South Lane SD teaching staff. The 3-year snapshot revealed our increasing support for new teachers and our reflections that led to the changes in support. Resources attached include the presenation handouts and our Learning Walk Samples that were referenced during the presentation.

2008 Ad Council Retreat (August)

Presentation: Our Leadership Odyssey - The South Lane School District Administrative Leadership Team (also referred to as "Ad Council") met in August 2008 to prepare their leadership learning for the school year. "Our Leadership Odyssey" was Superintendent Krista Parent's presentation on the Administrative Council learning since 2001.

2008 Oregon Mathematics Leadership Institute

Keynote: Our OMLI Experience - Superintendent Krista Parent was the keynote speaker for the culmination of the Oregon Mathematics Leadership Institute. Krista spoke about the significant impact the OMLI project has had on teaching and learning throughout the district. Sixteen teachers and all principals have participated in the three year project funded by the National Science Foundation aimed at improving mathematics instruction.

2008 Oregon Conference

Keynote: Improving Performance Outcomes in an Age of Accountability - The University of Oregon's 2007 Young Alumnus and 2007 National Superintendent of the Year was the keynote speaker for the Oregon Conference. Krista presented a practical view of today's accountability environment and encouraged those in the audience to step up and provide true measures of accountability for K-12 education.

2008 National Conference on Education

Workshop: Leading Student Learning - 2007 National Superintendent of the Year, Krista Parent, was a featured presenter at the National Conference on Education in Tampa, Florida sponsored by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). Krista's presentation emphasized the important role of the superintendent and administrators in leading student learning. The conference was attended by thousands from around the world.
