Immunization:
By law, shots are required for children in attendance at public and private schools, preschools, childcare facilities, and HeadStart programs. Oregon's Compulsory School Immunization Law (ORS.267) requires that every child in any Oregon school must be fully immunized against certain contagious diseases, or provide statements to the effect that the child is excused from immunization on religious or medical grounds. The school must be shown proof of immunizations prior to school enrollment. Transfer students will have a 30-day grace period to have their records forwarded.
Vaccines protecting against diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, and rubella are required. For children under 5 years of age, shots against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) are also required. Additional requirements include hepatitis B, a second dose of measles-containing vaccine (like MMR) and varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, or history of disease.
Please see the schedule below for affected grades.
| School Year | Grades | Vaccine |
| 2009-2010 | All Grades | Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, second dose measles, varicella |
Hepatitis A vaccine is required as of school year 2008-2009. This requirement will be phased in by grades beginning with children's facilities and Kindergarten.
For additional information about immunizations, you may contact Lane County Public Health Services at 682-4041, or the school where your child will be enrolled.
