Student Data Privacy

South Lane School District complies with the Family Education Right to Privacy Act or FERPA. Under FERPA only directory information can be disclosed without consent with some limited exceptions. Online Educational Programs and services are covered under the school officials exception to FERPA. Who is a "School Official" under FERPA? 

As a best practice, our online curriculum and other educational software that requires student data or handles education records agree to certain terms ensuring the data is under direct control of the district. The Technology department helps staff navigate these requirements and works with district staff and vendors to ensure compliance.
