Weekly Update

October 15, 2026
Front of Lincoln Middle School

Lincoln Families,

It has been another exciting week of learning, teamwork, and school spirit at Lincoln! Our students did an incredible job during Tuesday’s Lap-a-Thon. It was wonderful to see them encouraging one another, showing perseverance, and bringing so much positive energy to the event. We are proud of every student who participated!

Now, we are working to collect fundraising donations. Families may send cash or checks to school with their student, who can turn them in to their Zero Period teacher. Donations may also be made online by sharing or using the SNAP fundraising link lower in this update. Every donation helps support our students and school programs, and we appreciate our Lincoln community’s generosity.

In the classroom, our science students are busy beginning new labs and projects. Students are asking questions, making observations, testing ideas, and building the problem-solving skills that are such an important part of scientific learning. We look forward to seeing the creativity and discoveries that come from their work in the weeks ahead!

Warmly,

Laura Clark
Principal

The Weekly Roar

Zero Period - Starting the Day Stong

Period is the first 15 minutes of each school day and is designed to feel like a homeroom for our students. During this time, students receive important weekly information, watch school-wide videos, and participate in short lessons that build skills for success at school and beyond. These lessons focus on helping students grow into respectful, responsible, and prepared young adults.

From the Nurse! - Repeat

Attention Families,

Our yearly South Lane Dental Clinic dental screening is coming up on October 30, 2026!

This is an incredible opportunity for students to receive a free dental screening from a certified dental hygienist.

Students are automatically enrolled in this screening. If you do not wish for your student to participate, you must complete and return the opt-out form no later than Monday, October 26, 2026.

Please note that the date printed on the opt-out form is incorrect. The correct deadline to return the form is 10/26/2026.

Please remember that opt-out forms must be completed each school year. Printed forms are available in the front office.

Lincoln Lap-a-Thon

Lap-a-Thon Donations Are Open! 🏃🎉

Dear Lincoln Families,

Our Lincoln students brought incredible energy to the Lap-a-Thon on Tuesday! We are so proud of the effort, school spirit, and positive encouragement students showed throughout the event.

Now it is time to collect donations. Families can support Lincoln by donating through the link below or by sending cash or checks to school with students. Students should turn in in-person donations to their Zero Period teacher.

Every contribution helps support our students and school community. Thank you for cheering on our runners and helping make this fundraiser a success!

Growing Together with Technology

As our students grow, so do their technology privileges and responsibilities — a great opportunity for families to grow together, too! Navigating technology as a family helps build trust, understanding, and healthy habits that serve students well now and in the future.

Each week, I'll be posting 3 questions for parents to consider discussing with their teens, opening the door for meaningful conversations about safe and responsible technology use.

Here are this weeks family questions:
  1. Which app or game is hardest to put down, and what do you think it does to keep you there?

  2. What are you noticing about the apps and games in your house? And is there one you would like us to cover next?

  3. When have you seen someone have another person’s back, online or offline?

Student Success Committee - An Exciting Opportunity!

The Student Success Committee brings together different voices from our school community to help guide the district’s work in three important areas:
Culture & Climate – Helping students feel safe, supported, and connected.
Academic Growth – Helping students learn and grow.
Career Readiness – Preparing students for life after high school.

The committee will meet three times during the school year to learn about the district’s progress, review information and data, and share ideas and feedback. Members will help ensure that student, family, and staff experiences are considered as we make decisions and improve our schools.

We are a 25-member committee that includes equal parts of students, parents, certified, classified, and administrators. Your voice matters. By serving on this committee, you can help shape the future of South Lane schools and support student success. If you are interested, or would like to ask questions, please email Brian McCasline (brian.mccasline@slane.k12.or.us). Membership on the committee will be finalized by the end of the month in time for our first meeting on November 13 (8-2:30).
