Dear South Lane Families, Staff, and Community,

I am honored to get to serve the South Lane community and our wonderful students. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of listening, learning, and collaborating across our incredible district. I have seen firsthand the passion and talent that makes South Lane a truly special place. 

As we embark on this new school year, our focus turns to intention. We are entering this year with a clear, unified playbook shaped by the voices of our own community. These core community values are reflected in our new district maxims (short, memorable statements that provide practical wisdom or guide human conduct). They will serve as the daily anchors for our culture, our academics, and our operations:

• Dig Deep (We work hard to build our strengths): We are fostering a culture of resilience and academic excellence. By supporting our educators in robust professional learning communities and focusing on student growth, we are ensuring every child is challenged and supported to reach their full potential, and that hard work pays off. 

• Stay Rooted (We care for our community): Collective care and belonging sit at the heart of our work. It takes a village. We are committed to designing a safe, inclusive environment where students, parents and staff feel an authentic sense of connection, and where our central systems operate in sync to support our buildings, which in turn, supports our students and families. Each of us has a place in our community and we are better off from support of the community, as these roots nourish us and steady us. 

• Grow Strong (We prepare for the future): Our ultimate goal is to bridge each student's unique passions with the real-world skills needed for long-term success. From the nurturing environment of our Early Learning Center to our Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, we are intentional about preparing all students, at all ages, for this ever-changing world, making them future-ready for work and for life.

Education in South Lane takes place in our classrooms, on the athletic fields, on the stage, at home, and out in the community. Dig Deep, Stay Rooted and Grow Strong come from the values of our community and will become the bedrock for who we are at South Lane, connecting our students, staff, parents and community. They are intended to be simply written, so that they are easily remembered and that everyone in our community can see them, know them and help us build upon this collective culture. They are our values and they support students for future success. 

Every single child who enters our South Lane system is welcomed, valued, and supported in their pursuit of success. Thank you for your continued partnership, your trust, and your dedication to the youth of South Lane. Together, we will watch success happen- one child at a time.

My door remains open, and I look forward to working alongside you as we continue this journey together.
