Lion Pride Shines: Students Shatter Records for the Children's Miracle Network

Right before we headed into Spring Break, I had the privilege of attending the Cottage Grove Lion Pride Pageant. While I knew I was in for a great show, I walked away deeply moved by the spirit of our students, our staff, and our incredibly generous community.

I am thrilled to share that the event was a huge success, raising over $32,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network, significantly shattering their previous fundraising record.

A Lesson in Making a Difference

In education, we spend a lot of time focusing on what our students know. But as we look toward building well-rounded, life-ready graduates, we must also focus on how our students grow.

The Lion Pride Pageant was an amazing example in student development. To pull off an event of this magnitude and professionalism, our students had to step far beyond the traditional classroom. Watching them on stage and behind the scenes, I saw the keys of success in action:

  • Confidence & Creativity: Stepping onto a stage takes immense courage and self-assurance. They stepped out of their comfort zone to grow, and for a good cause.
  • Teamwork & Technical Skills: From lighting and sound to choreography and coordination, this was a massive collaborative lift.
  • Compassion & Community: Our students weren't just performing; they were advocates for a cause much larger than themselves.

Perhaps the most important lesson of the night wasn't found in a textbook. It was the realization that our students have the power to make a difference. The funds raised will go directly to the Children’s Miracle Network, an organization that supports families through their most challenging times and quite literally saves lives. By working toward this goal, our students learned that their time, talent, and hard work have a direct, positive impact on the world around them. Learning takes place in the classroom each and every day, but it also happens on the sports field, in civic engagement and on the stage. These students seized an opportunity to step out of their comfort zone, and the results were amazing!

A Heartfelt Thank You

An achievement like this doesn't happen in a vacuum. It is the result of the tireless dedication of the staff who mentored these students and the overwhelming generosity of the Cottage Grove community. Your support, whether through a ticket purchase, a donation, giving time or expertise, or a round of applause, shows our students that this community stands behind them.

I am incredibly proud of our students for their growth and their hearts. They didn't just put on a wonderful show; they showed us exactly what it means to have Lion Pride.

Take care,

Todd Miller

Superintendent
