Learn About Child Nutrition
There are many misunderstandings regarding schools providing meals and the school meal assistance program. There has always been a taboo regarding getting school food or being on a free meal program and it is our mission to eliminate the negative connotations of school meals and transform our cafeterias into a place all kids want to eat!
Our Food Service Team at South Lane pride themselves on offering a variety of scratch-made items, such as cheeserolls and chicken pot pie, while still serving the ever-popular convenience choices like corn dogs and hamburgers. Every school incorporates a homemade baked item into their daily menu prepared by one of our many skilled bakers. Our bread is delivered directly from Franz Bakery weekly, our multiple milk and dairy items are supplied by our neighbors at Umpqua Dairy.
Every meal has unlimited offerings of both fruits and vegetables, many sourced locally. The USDA funds a majority of our food supply and we at SLSD have chosen to allocate 20% of those funds towards the DOD fresh program, which means we have more to spend on FRESH produce!
