Dear Dorena Families,
It is my absolute pleasure to welcome you—whether you are joining us for the first time or returning for another wonderful year at Dorena School! I hope your summer was full of rest and fun, and that your family is feeling eager for the year ahead. We are truly honored that you entrust us with your children’s education and growth.
Word is getting out about all the incredible things happening at Dorena! Thanks to our growing enrollment, we have capped classrooms this year while continuing to maintain a close-knit, supportive environment. We have an exciting year planned, packed with rigorous instruction in reading, math, and writing, high expectations for every student, a deep commitment to kindness and belonging, and of course plenty of fun!

Announcements:
- We will review all attendance exceptions on August 19th, all families that currently have attendance exception applications in will be notified on the 20th.
Staggered Start Schedule
First-Eighth Grades
- At the beginning of the school year half of the students will attend on Wednesday, September 9th and the other half of students will attend on Thursday, September 10th. Both September 9th and 10th will be EARLY RELEASE days where students will be released at 12:30pm.

September 9th- We will welcome all 3rd graders, and 5th graders, 7th and 8th graders from 8am-12:30pm. All Kindergartners, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th graders will stay home on this day.
- Please note that First graders will not attend school this day, this allows for our K/1 teacher to have home visits and family meetings with our incoming Kindergartners.

September 10th- We will welcome all 2nd graders, 4th graders, and 6th graders from 8am-12:30pm. All Kindergarteners, 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th grade students will stay home on this day.
- Please note that First graders will not attend school this day, this allows for our K/1 teacher to have home visits and family meetings with our incoming Kindergartners.

September 11th we will welcome all 1st-8th-grade students for a full day 8am-2:30pm. Kindergartners will stay home on this day.
- Please note that the school day starts at 8am, there is not supervision for students prior to 7:45am. Breakfast will be available in the cafeteria starting at 7:45am for K-3rd grade students.
